The sad news, before anything else, is that MikuMikuDance was discontinued quite some time ago by its original developer, Higuchi Yu. The final release version was 7.39, and will not receive any future updates. It was Higuchi’s hope that the MMD community would take over where he left off. I’m sure he is happy to know that a new group has answered that call.

MikuMikuMoving has been in development for many months and already serves as a viable alternative to MMD, and more. The application offers a completely new and intuitive interface that makes use easier for newer users. It offers full compatibility for all MMD models and motion data, as well as a few other new features.

The application has a built-in function for switching to English, and runs on Windows operating systems only (no Mac support). The program is still under constant development to add new features and bug fixes, so be sure to keep up to date with the newest releases. The current version as of this article is 1.1.7.9. You can find the official download page and usage guide linked below.

MikuFan has played an important role over the past few years to help many fans find MikuMikuDance, so I felt this was an important article to cover.
