Sony’s last music video featuring Tilt-Six’s Hatsune Miku cover and remix of Voices was pretty cool, right? Well, Sony thought they’d treat us to yet another music video for their Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku collab, this time featuring music from LamazeP with a song titled “Dondake?! Xperia”. iXima’s prototype Hatsune Miku model is used once again, with choreography by team “abstreem creation”.

Just yesterday, the Sony Xperia feat. Hatsune homepage was mysteriously revived for unknown reasons. The website serves as the portal for Sony’s previous Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku phone, released in 2013.

The website was previously hosted at dx39.net, but it seems that domain was snatched by a domain squatter. Instead of buying back the domain, the website was revived at dx39.jp. The reason for the revival is unknown. Perhaps Sony simply realized they forgot to pay the domain bill. They could also be planning another music remix collab. Or they just might be planning a special announcement (a new phone, perhaps?).

The 2 year contacts for the Miku Xperia phones expire this month, so it’s entirely possible for a successor phone to be announced. The website revival comes not too long after the supposed Xperia Z5 Compact Miku phone rumor, although that particular rumor was stated as false by Crypton Future Media (Hatsune Miku’s creators). If anything special is indeed planned, we might hear something soon.

EDIT: Sony just made an official tweet via the dx39 twitter announcing that the special content delivery services for the Miku Xperia will end on September 18th. It’s very interesting that Sony would revive the Miku Xperia site, but then announce the end of content delivery services for the phone the next day.

A supposed news leak from China has teased what appears to be a yet-to-be announced Hatsune Miku edition phone from Sony for Japan, titled the Xperia Z5 Compact Premium -Miku Edition-. If the rumored details are true, then this would not only make for a phone desirable for Hatsune Miku fans, it would also make it the best compact smart phone in the world. Period.

Sony has already announced the Z5 series of phones earlier this week (Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium), but made no mention of a “Z5 Compact Premium” version phone. If true, it brings several specification improvements over the Z5 Compact, notably the screen resolution, battery capacity and memory (more than even the Z5 Premium). It’s also rumored to once again be a Docomo-exclusive device.

Sony last released a Hatsune Miku edition Xperia phone in 2013 for the Docomo phone carrier, which was based on the Xperia A model. It was a mid-range offering with a premium price, which led to slower than expected sales. So it seems somewhat odd that Sony would try again with what would likely be an even more expensive phone. However, as an owner of a green colored Xperia Z3 Compact, this would be my dream phone upgrade. We look forward to an official announcement from Sony to confirm or deny the rumors.

Notable reasons why the phone may be fake: Managing to cram a 2900mAh battery into a 4.6″ phone would be an incredible feat, as they barely managed 2700mAh for the Z5 Compact of the same size. The fact the phone is said to have more memory than the even larger Z5 Premium is a bit strange. More-so, the images above seem to use the same silhouette logo from last month’s Walkman design poll held by Sony of China. Lastly, the phone is very oddly featuring the old Hatsune Miku V3 software illustration, rather than something new and exclusive (like we saw with the previous Miku Xperia).

EDIT: Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku, have officially commented at Magical Mirai 2015 that this phone rumor is false. Sorry, but the phone isn’t real!
