Today, May 1st, 2019, marks the end of the Heisei(平成) Era in Japan, and the start of the Reiwa(令和) Era as Emperor Akihito abstained from his position as emperor of Japan, and his son Naruhito succeeded to the throne as Japan’s new emperor. Over the past weeks, many in Japan and around the world took to media to reflect what the Heisei Era brought to the world, and look forward to what the Reiwa Era will bring.

Hatsune Miku was one of many amazing creations born in Japan during the Heisei Era of rule. Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku, Twitter, as well as various Hatsune Miku fans came up with some creative ways to express their thoughts and ideas! Below are some of the tweets and articles we found regarding Hatsune Miku and the beginning of Japan’s new era.

One of our favorites was illustrator Sudachi having Hatsune Miku announce the new Reiwa Era, all while she’s confused and has no idea what’s going on. It’s both cute and hilarious!

Twitter of Japan recognized Hatsune Miku as an important part of the Heisei Era history. Being born in 2007, Hatsune Miku helped shape a new way for us to enjoy making and listening to music. It was also the year that Twitter introduced retweets and hashtags, giving #初音ミク fans a new way to share and communicate online.

Advertisement posters were published on trains in Japan, showing remembrance for Hatsune Miku as one of the creations from the Heisei Era. While Hatsune Miku train advertisements are nothing new, they’re always nice to see, especially in-person!

Illustrator Wana created this illustration honoring some of the legendary Vocaloid songs created during the Heisei Era. Here we can see Melt, Senbonzakura, Miku Miku Ni Shite Ageru and more!

Illustrator Pentagon drew Hatsune Miku in a special celebratory kimono, expressing his thanks for being able to meet Hatsune Miku during the Heisei Era. Beautiful!

Illustrator Daidou also drew an illustration to express his thanks to the Heisei Era for bringing Hatsune Miku into this world. Yet another lovely illustration!
