Hatsune Miku is once again lending her aid for safety awareness in the Hokkaido prefecture of Japan! In response to an increase in deadly motorcycle accidents, the Hokkaido Prefectural Police Traffic Department has adopted Hatsune Miku in a motorcyclist safety awareness campaign.

Motorcycle riders and vehicle drivers alike are encouraged to avoid dangerous and unreasonable driving habits, and to avoid speeding through traffic for the safety of yourself and others.

The rather cute campaign artwork featuring Hatsune Miku as a motorcycle police officer was illustrated by Kyushii, and is likely be featured in advertisement spaces across the prefecture to raise safety awareness.

Ride safe out there!

Hatsune Miku Airport? The name has a chance at becoming reality, thanks to a list of new names proposed for Sapporo City’s small airport.

Most travel to Sapporo tends to be done through the much larger New Chitose airport, as it is capable of landing and takeoff of much larger aircraft. But residents of Hokkaido are familiar with Sapporo’s own airport, currently named Okadama Airport. There are plans to expand the airport to accommodate larger aircraft, which would allow more direct travel to the popular city. This plan for expansion also brought along the idea of renaming the airport to better represent the city.

“Hello, where will you be traveling today?”
“Hatsune Miku Airport”
←Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

“Hatsune Miku Airport” is one of 10 different names currently on the table for consideration. It would make a nice nod of recognition towards Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku, which was founded and currently still operates in Sapporo City.

Other names on the list for consideration by Sapporo City are “Sapport”, “Snow Air”, “Sapporo Yuki Matsuri Airport”, and “Sapporo Clock Airport” (after Sapporo’s famous clock tower building).

Japan was recently bombarded by Typhoon Jebi on September 4th 2018, the worst Typhoon that Japan has seen in 25 years. The storm caused catastrophic damage across the Kansai region of Japan, and neighboring areas. Following this recent event, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake was reported in the Hokkaido region of Japan on September 6th, causing widespread water and power outages.

Recoveries from the typhoon will take many months, possibly years. And it will take up to a week for water and electricity to be restored to all areas of Hokkaido. The Hokkaido region of Japan is also home to Sapporo, the hometown of Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku. Hiroyuki Itoh, the CEO of Crypton Future Media, has reported that their office was thankfully not majorly affected by the earthquake. But many areas were not as fortunate.

We here at MikuFan wish all people of Japan safety and speedy recovery from the recent natural disasters. Below are tweets from Hiroyuki Itoh of Crypton Future Media, and a summary video showing the severity of Typhoon Jebi.
