It’s been over a year since we’ve last seen a Vocaloid release from the circle known as 2D M3NTION Records, with their last hit being the song “Love Song Excuse” along with various remixes. For those of you unfamiliar, the song and album was released as a tribute to the tsunami disaster in Japan earlier last year. You can view the pv for that release here.

Thankfully, the release of this new album comes under much happier circumstances. And just like their last release, it’s completely free for download! You can not only download the original mix and watch the official PV on their site, but you can obtain the remix album with 7 additional tracks.

Each track is the same song, but in a completely different style. Some are slow and relaxing while others are extremely upbeat. Below are two different mixes of the song, and one of them is an additional mix not included in the album, created by Revolution Boi (and also free for download!). Free albums are the best kind of albums, wouldn’t you agree? =P

Created by Mitchie M, this amazing PV to celebrate Miku’s Birthday uses all of the Cryptonloids (minus Miku herself) for the music. And despite being over a month early, that doesn’t make the song and video any less amazing. Well done!

This is a song and a 3DPV that deserves a special mention from me, because mikuru396 is the entire reason I’m here right now. So I’ll tell you the story of how I came to be where I am today.

Back in late 2007, a friend of mine in Singapore who now goes by the name of Fuzzy (and one of the owners of kyourankyodai) was often mentioning this odd female character with teal colored twin tails. I didn’t show a whole lot of interest at the time. But then on December 15th, 2007, he linked me to the 3DPV of “Melody…” (or Melody.exe as some call it) from nicovideo on the day it was uploaded.

This was the first Vocaloid video I ever saw.

The first thing that caught my eye was the visuals. It was in a style I had never seen before. But what caught my interest the most was the fact that the Vocals were 100% synthesized. We had tools like Microsoft Sam to make our computers speak, so the fact that there was a program to make your computer sing was quite astonishing.

It was thanks to that song by Mikuru396 that I got involved in Vocaloid when I did. Now fast forward to today, and we have a brand new song by the same artist titled “:Re”. This song was created as the “answer” and successor for his classic “Melody…”. This song… This PV… It’s beautiful. It brings back so many memories of the older days, and it makes me remember when the Vocaloid community was something small and obscure. I’ve had the chance to watch the community blossom to what it is now over the past 4.5 years. Those thoughts, combined with this song, actually made me cry. It was that powerful.

But enough with my own emotions. Let’s move onto the song itself. The track was composed by Mikuru396, and the PV was made by Brother-P.

The Vocaloid community has had its fair share of impressive 3DPVs over the years. I remember back to the days when Melody.exe held the crown for top animation work in 2007. And then things were taken to the next level in Nebula by Tripshots in 2009. And in the year of 2012… We get this. The lyrics and music was done by BANQO(rest or stay?), and the arrangement was done by kors k. Lastly, the movie was created by Aono.Y.

This musical piece, if I’m reading the description correctly, makes use of 5 different voices/Vocaloids. The list mentions GUMI, Miku, Miku Dark Append, Miku Soft Append, and VY1. I absolutely love Vocalectro (Vocaloid+Electro) music, so my opinion for the music may be somewhat biased. But the animation in this is just astounding. You can watch the original on nicovideo by clicking here, or you can watch the official YouTube version below. The involved artists have done an AMAZING job with this. Scott of mikustar.com has also written his own article, honoring this PV as a “6 star” quality production.
